Our Admission Requirement

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Portal of Plateau State College of Agriculture, Garkawa. The College was established by Edict No. 9 of 1998 by the administration of Col. Musa S. Shehu the then Military Administrator of Plateau State, to train middle level man-power in agriculture in the country. The College offers courses in various aspects of agriculture leading to the award of National and Higher National Diploma certificates under the supervision of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The initial thinking in the NBTE curriculum was to train students who would serve as agricultural extension workers, to serve as a link between agricultural researchers and farmers. The agricultural extension worker was to pick up the new techniques of farming developed by the researcher and teach them to the farmers with a view to improving the overall productivity of the farmers. Entry Requirement

The entry requirements into the National Diploma programmes in Agricultural Technology, Animal Health and Production Technology, Home and Rural Economics and Horticultural Technology are all similar. The candidates must have a credit pass in at least five subjects at the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE), National Examinations Council (NECO), General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level or National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) examinations, in not more than two sittings. The subjects include Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Geography, Economics and Home Economics. Such candidates must have passed the examination of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and scored at least 120 points.
For the Higher National Diploma programmes, the candidates must have credit passes in the O’ Level subjects listed above. In addition, the candidates must have not less than a Lower Credit pass at the National Diploma programme in the relevant field.
