ACCREDITATION OF COURSES

March 24, 2024

Plateau State College of Agriculture, Garkawa, played host to an assessment team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in March, 2024. The team visited the College for the inspection of facilities and manpower for the full accreditation of existing academic programmes (both National, and Higher National Diploma programmes) that already had interim accreditation. The programmes presented for assessment in this category were:

i. National Diploma in Agricultural Technology (re-accreditation)
ii. National Diploma in Animal Health and Production
iii. National Diploma in Horticultural Technology
iv. National Diploma in Home and Rural Economics
v. Higher National Diploma in Agricultural Extension and Management.

The assessment team was quite satisfied with the facilities and manpower that they saw for each of these programmes. Their favourable report led to the full accreditation of all these programmes. Thus, the above programmes have been fully accredited by the NBTE.
Another team of inspectors assessed the facilities and manpower for new Higher National Diploma (HND) Programmes which the College intended to mount. These new programmes were:

i. Higher National Diploma in Animal Health Technology
ii. Higher National Diploma in Animal Production Technology
iii. Higher National Diploma in Crop Production Technology
iv. Higher National Diploma in Home and Rural Economics
v. Higher National Diploma in Horticulture and Landscape Technology
vi. Higher National Diploma in Pest Management Technology

The assessment was quite satisfied with the facilities and manpower assessed for four of these programmes. Their favourable report led to the interim accreditation of four new HND programmes, namely:

i. Higher National Diploma in Crop Production
ii. Higher National Diploma in Home and Rural Economics
iii. Higher National Diploma in Horticulture and Landscape Technology
iv. Higher National Diploma in Pest Management Technology

We do hereby use this medium to express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for the prompt approval and release of the funds that facilitated this NBTE assessment visit and the accreditation of both the existing, and new academic programmes. We do wish appeal to His Excellency for the release of the funds needed to complete the projects for the accreditation of the remaining two academic programmes which could not pass the NBTE assessment, namely:

i. Higher National Diploma in Animal Health Technology
ii. Higher National Diploma in Animal Production Technology.

Another academic programme that the College has been running since its inception is the Preliminary National Diploma (Pre-ND) programme. Its target beneficiaries are secondary school leavers who failed to meet the SSCE requirements for admission into the National Diploma programme. The Pre-ND programme is a one-year intensive training programme to prepare the students to re-write the WAEC, NECO and/or NABTEB examinations, and to also write the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations. Candidates who wish to remedy their SSCE deficiencies are advised to take advantage of this opportunity and enroll into this programme.

The sale of admission forms for the Higher National Diploma, and Pre-ND programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session is currently in progress. Interested candidates are to obtain the application forms for their chosen programmes at the Academic Office of the College, or the appropriate link at the College portal.

Candidates who wrote the 2024 JAMB UTME examinations and scored a minimum of 100 points, and who selected Plateau State College of Agriculture, Garkawa, as their first choice are to contact the College Admission Office, or the appropriate link at the College portal, for the Post-UTME screening exercise for admission into any of our National Diploma programmes, please.
